Qualcomm launches QCS400 Series SoCs for Smart Speaker, Description Smart Audio 400 platform

Qualcomm has launched a new series of SoCs (System on Chip) called QCS 400 series dedicated to smart speakers, soundbar, AV receiver and digital assistant. In the new series of processors Qualcomm’s AI engine, better voice recognition, high quality audio support as Dolby Atmos, DTS: X and Eptex are all in one chip architecture. The company also expanded its new Smart Audio 400 platform, which is a end-to-end solution platform designed to help manufacturers accelerate the development of smart speakers.

At the time of the announcement, Qualcomm has listed four SoCs as part of this new series. QCS403 is designed for smart speakers and assistants and will support dual-core CPUs and up to 12 audio channels. On the other hand, QCS404 is a feature of a quad-core CPU specially designed for smart speaker alone. None of these chips will have AI engines and it is present only in QCS405 and QCS407 SoC, which are designed for the soundbar and AV receiver, respectively.

Rahul Patel, SVP and GM at Qualcomm said, “These new SoCs increase the bar on both feature integration and power performance for smart audio.”

Some of the main highlights of the new QCS400 series include Wi-Fi connectivity with next-generation Bluetooth and Bluetooth 5.1 and 802.11ax or Wi-Fi support. It also supports Zygaby, which is a wireless protocol designed for small networks with low-network radio. . Handling up to 32 channels of top-end SoC audio processing and Dolby Atmos, DTS: X, Qualcomm DDFA amplifier technology and aptX adaptive will be able to support low-latency streaming. New chips are also called for improving the recognition of remote area voice, which will allow the smart speaker to be able to take voice commands from the entire room with music at high volume levels. Multi-keyword detection and multi-channel echo cancellation are also supported.

In addition to performance, new chips promise better efficiency with additional support up to 25x with voice wake-up and extended battery life compared to previous technology.

Qualcomm also announced its new Smart Audio 400 platform, which will help smart speakers develop products faster around the new QCS400 SoC. The manufacturers will be able to get their hands directly from the Qualcomm to the Customizable Development Kit and Sample Product Design, which can help save the cost of materials and time of development.
